The inspiration for this motif is drawn from a charming scene: the kittens beneath the ancient ginkgo trees of Xiyuan Temple in Suzhou.

Every autumn, when the ginkgo viewing season arrives, the golden trees of Xiyuan Temple are a celebrated highlight. Just as famous are the resident cats, which have become a major attraction in their own right. The design captures these playful and adorable kittens as they bask in the sun under the canopy, frolicking among a carpet of golden fallen leaves.

Stylized ginkgo leaves form the delicate background pattern. The entire motif is structured within the framework of a "Ruyi-Lobed Mirror" (ruyi linghua jing). Each panel of this mirror-like frame acts as a window, chronicling a different, leisurely moment shared between the cats and the ginkgo leaves.
